Medicom Toy (Japan) introduces Jackson Pollock Bearbricks

Medicom Toy has tapped Andy Warhol on a number of occasions and now the Japanese toy giant is calling upon another late, great artist: Jackson Pollock.

Featuring 100%, 400%, and 1000% Bearbricks, the collaborative endeavor sees the trio of ursine figures covered in the abstract expressionist’s signature splattered paint motif.

Retailing for ¥1,500 JPY (approximately $12 USD), ¥8,800 JPY (approximately $73 USD), and ¥37,000 JPY (approximately $308 USD) respectively, the Beabricks can be pre-ordered now through January 10, 2016 via Medicom’s web shop, project 1/6 and C.J.MART.

COMME des GARÇONS PLAY x Converse Pro Leather Collection

Following up to its popular collaborative COMME des GARÇONS x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star ’70 collection released earlier this year, the two iconic brands come together once again for a distinct footwear collection. This time around, Converse’s Pro Leather silhouette is reworked with CdG PLAY’s unmistakable heart logo.

The range features four variations that include two low-tops and two high-tops. Featuring a varying palette of black, white and red, the leather uppers feature the embroidered chevron logo distinct to this Converse model. A clean white rubber sole rounds off the look.

The collection currently retails between $135-140 USD and is available now at select retailers such as Feature and Dover Street Market.

Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli’s 1991 masterpiece ‘Only Yesterday’ finally set for North America release

From the talent that brought you Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and Howl’s Moving Castle comes the archived masterpiece Only Yesterday. Originally released in Japan in 1991 under the title Omoide Poro Poro or translated as Memories Trickle Down, the story follows that of 27-year old Taeko as her travels to the countryside are interlaced with memories of booming metropolitan Tokyo.

Daisy Ridley (Rey of Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Dev Patel (Chappie and Slumdog Millionaire) voice the main characters in the Isao Takahata-directed animation with Hayao Miyazaki as general producer.

Only Yesterday hits the IFC Center theater on January 1 and select theaters nationwide on February 26.

Medicom Toy (Japan) ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ 100% Bearbricks

With the highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice film set to hit theaters next March, Medicom Toy has unveiled a set of 100% Bearbricks to get fans excited for the forthcoming release.

Featuring Superman in his modernized hero suit and an armored Batman, each figure measures in at the standard 7 cm size. The Dawn of Justice pack comes with both Bearbricks as a set and retails for ¥3,000 JYP (approximately $25 USD).

Leaked: The new Fujifilm X-Pro2

First released back in 2012, the Fujifilm X-Pro1 has since become a fan favorite revered for its mirrorless functionality. Fast forward to today and the Japanese camera imprint looks like it is set to release an update on its highly-acclaimed flagship unit.

Based on images released by Fuji Rumors, we get a first look at the new model that sports slightly more rounded edges although the camera, in general, still retains clear aesthetic cues from the original. Despite details still being sparse regarding changes with the internal makeup, distinct alterations have been made with the viewfinder and control system. In particular, a joystick seems to have been added.

According to Engadget, Fujifilm is set to launch the X-Pro2 on January 15, 2016. Until then, we hope to receive more information on specification details.

COMME des GARÇONS (Japan) launches new “DOT” perfume

Newly added to COMME des GARÇONS’s extensive range of scents — and following last year’s “GIRL” collab with Pharrell and KAWS — is “DOT” from the Japanese favorite.

Capturing “the mysterious scent and allure that penetrates the air of a park filled with Osmantus trees in bloom,” the scent boasts top notes of bitter orange, pepper, and leafy greens as olibanum enhances a bottom of white amber woods.

100 ml bottles are available now from London’s Liberty for £87 GBP (approximately $130 USD).

Taiwanese-American artist James Jean and Beats by Dre bring in the Chinese New Year

Beats by Dre looks to bring in February’s Chinese New Year with its latest collaborative drop. Taiwanese-American visual artist James Jean was called upon to celebrate the Year of the Monkey with the Solo² Wireless. Its artistry is inspired by the popular proverb in “Hear no evil, See no evil, Speak no evil.”

Additionally James Jean’s work with Beats by Dre combines street and sophistication upon its upcoming product. You can expect the Beats by Dre x James Jean Solo² to release on December 30.

Banksy “Flower Bomber” by Medicom Toy (Japan)

Japanese toy manufacturer Medicom Toy has launched a collectible inspired by Banksy’s iconic Flower Bomber stencil. After teasing a prototype at its annual Tokyo exhibition in June, the figurine has been produced for retail.

Designed by PERFECT-STUDIO, the toy is constructed of polystone and stands at 360 mm tall. The finished product slightly varies from the all-white prototype seen in the exhibit with bright colors being added to just the flowers — mirroring the tone of the original artwork.

Pre-orders for the piece are available now through January 10 at Medicom Toy’s online store, with shipping slated for May 2016.

Stussy & JAM HOME MADE usher in the Year of the Monkey

After ringing in the year of the sheep, Stussy and JAM HOME MADE have come together once again — this time to celebrate the year of the monkey.

Highlighted by a trio of bracelets in Onyx, Red Tigers Eye and Howlite, the collaborative collection for 2016 is capped off with a yellow-lined black leather wallet. Like last year’s drop, the collection sees each piece decorated with an interlocking “SS” logo that’s been specially designed for the year at hand.

Retailing for ¥9,500 JPY (approximately $79 USD) and ¥24,000 JPY (approximately $199 USD) respectively, the bracelets and wallet will soon be available from Stussy chapters, the Stussy Japan web store, and ZOZOTOWN.
