Recording artist/musician/designer Taku Hirano presents the winter collection of graphic tee offerings from his streetwear/activewear line 3rd Culture Style. Based on a hashtag and acronym of his name, TRY AND KEEP UP (#taku) is 3rd Culture Style’s trademarked slogan.

ABOUT:

3rd Culture Style is an international streetwear/lifestyle apparel imprint founded by world-renowned musician and producer Taku Hirano. A bona fide 3rd Culture kid, born in Osaka and raised in California and Hong Kong, Taku Hirano has always had a keen eye pointed towards the visual aspects of pop culture.

Whether it was a childhood filled with Japanese toys and anime, or having spent his formative years in the ’80s skateboarding culture as an avid collector of skate decks, Powell Peralta shirts, and Vans, Taku was always drawn to detail, color, design, and aesthetics. Though formally trained in both the visual arts and music since a child, music finally won out… a decision that has not only taken Taku around the world on tours with the likes of rock legends Fleetwood Mac and R&B icon Whitney Houston, but onstage and in-studio with everyone from Stevie Wonder and Stevie Nicks, to Ziggy Marley and Iggy Azalea

#taku:

The first t-shirt designs that would become 3rd Culture Style stemmed from a need for apparel to serve as merchandise for Taku’s international drum workshops, held while on tour. Taku knew he was onto something as his name is the acronym for Try And Keep Up. He adopted the moniker and hashtag “#taku” as his trademarked slogan. While on a 2-year world tour with Cirque du Soleil, surrounded by world-class musicians, circus artists, and the top dancers and b-boys from around the world, the first run of shirts was produced and immediately sold-out… Not to drum workshop students, but to his tour mates who brought them back to their native countries on tour breaks. The Try And Keep Up design shirts began trending, being seen on the international breakdancing scene by way of social media. A buzz began and 3rd Culture Style was born; in business with a fast-tracked online storefront.

3rd Culture:

Here’s round two of Audrey Magazine‘s holiday gift guides to help you with that last minute shopping.  We decided to pull inspiration from fashion favorite, Irene Kim.  Her popularity continues to grow at rapid speeds along with her Instagram following, and it’s so easy to fall in love with her quirky and playful style.  We chose a few of our favorite looks and found similar items to share. Maybe you’ll end up saving one or two on your own wish list!

 


 

1. A Killer Jacket

Still on trend with color blocking, Kim is wearing ACNE Studios.  Though the jacket is difficult to find online currently, we found a similar version with more muted hues being offered by AllSaints Spitalfields.  A bit more on the high side in terms of budget, but if you’re looking for an investment piece to gift, the Frith jacket is available here for $900.

 2. Animal Prints Times Two

If you know anyone that is a huge fan of animal prints, take a peek at these two looks from Kim.  First, we loved how she layered a printed hoodie to break up the mild, dark colors of her winter outerwear. Then, we couldn’t take our eyes of her on-trend Adidas sneakers.  Interested in these styles?  We found this Zoe Karssen zebra hoodie available here for $140.  Kim’s Adidas Originals sneakers can still be found here and on sale for $84! 3. A Striped Skirt

Black and white stripes are classic, so we hunted down an alternative style to Kim’s skirt.  High-waisted as well, this fitted Dolce&Gabbana piece features a flirty, ruffled hem.  If you are looking for a luxury, high-end gift, this skirt can be found here for $995.

4. Keeping Cozy

Our obsession with black and white doesn’t seem to end.  There’s nothing like a cozy, warm sweater during the holidays and we really loved Kim’s simple, slouchy plaid top.  Consider giving the gift of warmth this winter with a JOA Boyfriend Check sweater available on sale here for $35.

ASICS Gel Saga “Curry”

ASICS has cooked up a new colorway for its Gel Saga model that takes cues from the much loved dish: curry. Be it from India, Japan or even the UK, curry is synonymous for its buttery yellow hue which has been spread throughout the suede upper and even the laces. You’ll also find notes of dark brown along the ASICS stripes, tongue and branding, while sitting on an all-white rubber midsole and black outsole.

Without an exact announced drop date yet, the shoes are set to release sometime in December, so be sure to keep an eye out then.

When streetwear guru Hiroshi Fujiwara and Nike team up, we know that we’re in for something truly special. Today we have a preview of the three latest fragment design x Nike creations including the Air Jordan 1, Nike Sock Dart and Nike LD-1000 silhouettes.

The Air Jordan 1′s are likely to cause the most stir, with the combination of royal blue and black evoking memories of the classic “Royals.” Although there is no concrete release date for this pair nor the fragment design x Nike Sock Dart, the fragment design x Nike LD-1000 will be available starting November 6.

The ever-coveted UNDERCOVER x Nike GYAKUSOU collaboration between Jun Takahashi and Nike’s running program has yielded yet another stellar line for Winter 2014. Nike tapped Takahashi’s expertise as both a designer and devout urban runner to create a small range of innovative, admittedly forward-thinking running pieces.

Amongst Takahashi’s objectives this season were to run in single layers without compromising utility or fit, inspiring both himself and the Swoosh to present items like the Utility Long Tights – which cleverly combine the roomy upper of running shorts with the extended coverage of tights. This futuristic ideology is also lent to pieces such as the Engineered Sleeve Composite Jacket, which was meticulously constructed with layers of StormFIT® and engineered knit to maintain mobility while offering superior weather protection. The collection is also complimented by thermal vests, articulated hoodies, shorts, pants, and even knit hats.
