Grateful Dead x Medicom Toy (Japan) “Dancing Bears” Bearbricks

As a more unconventional addition to Medicom Toy’s wide selection of collaborative Bearbrick designs, the famed Japanese toy house has come together with American rock band Grateful Dead on a 100% and 1000% “Dancing Bears” edition.

Paying homage to Bob Thomas’ original design that appeared on the reverse of the band’s History of the Grateful Dead, Volume One (Bear’s Choice) album. Rendered in a series of banded colors running throughout its design, the “Dancing Bears” Bearbricks are now available from Medicom Toy for ¥1,600 JPY (approximately $14 USD) and ¥36,000 JPY (approximately $307 USD) respectively.

Medicom Toy (Japan) introduces Jackson Pollock Bearbricks

Medicom Toy has tapped Andy Warhol on a number of occasions and now the Japanese toy giant is calling upon another late, great artist: Jackson Pollock.

Featuring 100%, 400%, and 1000% Bearbricks, the collaborative endeavor sees the trio of ursine figures covered in the abstract expressionist’s signature splattered paint motif.

Retailing for ¥1,500 JPY (approximately $12 USD), ¥8,800 JPY (approximately $73 USD), and ¥37,000 JPY (approximately $308 USD) respectively, the Beabricks can be pre-ordered now through January 10, 2016 via Medicom’s web shop, project 1/6 and C.J.MART.

Medicom Toy (Japan) ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ 100% Bearbricks

With the highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice film set to hit theaters next March, Medicom Toy has unveiled a set of 100% Bearbricks to get fans excited for the forthcoming release.

Featuring Superman in his modernized hero suit and an armored Batman, each figure measures in at the standard 7 cm size. The Dawn of Justice pack comes with both Bearbricks as a set and retails for ¥3,000 JYP (approximately $25 USD).

Toy Story x Medicom Toy (Japan) 400% Woody and Buzz Lightyear Bearbrick

Medicom Toy unveils its latest collaboration with Disney’s Toy Story franchise with two new Bearbricks, one of Woody and the other of Buzz Lightyear. The main characters of the franchise are re-imagined in Bearbrick fashion, while still staying true to Woody’s cowboy characteristics and Buzz Lightyear’s futuristic features.

Both retail for ¥7,800 JPY (approximately $66 USD) and will be released May of this year at select stockists or online at Medicom Toy.

Hong Kong multi-brand fashion retailer D-mop has just revamped its latest J-01 sports fashion concept store.

First launched in 2001, J-01 (Just Only One) aims to bring the world’s finest exclusive collections and limited-edition items to Hong Kong for a discerning clientele looking for something original and experimental, something beyond mere trends or whims. No stranger to similar efforts in the past such as D-mop Denim Store and the “Military Theatre” themed D-mop zone, J-01 has gradually risen to prominence with its unique retail concepts.

J-01 has been a leading partner on many projects together with global sports brands including adidas by Rick Owens, adidas by Raf Simons, Nike, Asics, New Balance, Ewing, the Puma Disc series and the 20th Anniversary Reebok Certified Network Instapump Fury line, among many others.

Aesthetically presented as an urban showroom, J-01 features a minimalist white layout with soft yellow lighting and an exhibition platform acting as the main feature. In addition to serving as a purveyor of eminent apparel, runners, accessories and limited-edition items, J-01 has become a significant platform for creative projects and happenings, and has been actively involved in collaborating with different parties each season which include visual media installations showcasing their special-edition collections.

The good folks over at The Hundreds had the pleasure of visiting the much anticipated Medicom Toy annual exhibition at the Parco Museum in Tokyo. Here we see a first look at unreleased limited edition pieces, collaborations such as Peanuts x A Bathing Ape and dioramas with real action hero figures. 
 
Although the exhibition has already closed earlier this week, you can stop by the Medicom Toy stores here for a chance to get your hands on one of the new July releases. Check out the recap above and keep an eye out for some of the goodies if you find yourself in Tokyo.

Daft Punk x Medicom Toy “Random Access Memories” Bearbricks

In celebration of the release of last year’s Random Access Memories from Daft PunkMedicom Toy has crafted special edition Bearbricks for the debonair robots. Appearing in both 400% and 100% form, the release sees Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter in their Saint Laurent suits as the pack joins a number of previous collaborations between the Japanese toy giant and the French duo.
Retailing for ¥13,800 JPY (approximately $135 USD) and ¥3,000 JPY (approximately $29 USD) respectively, the 400% and 100% two-packs are due out June 24 from the likes of Medicom’s own web store and project 1/6.

Teaming up with Karimoku once more on another selection of collaborative BearbricksMedicom Toy has revealed the 400% Handmade Bearbrick. Designed to commemorate the 2014 Medicom Toy Exhibition, this collaborative piece falls in line with Karimoku and Medicom Toy’s previous partnered projects as it is made entirely of wood, but stands out due to its tile finish and aesthetic that is reflective of layered bricks.

Andy Warhol x Medicom Toy Vinyl Collectible Dolls

Dropping alongside the Andy Warhol Bearbricks for the Mori Art Museum’s “15 Minutes Eternal” retrospective are two vinyl versions of Warhol from Medicom Toy. Available in both greyscale and a colorful pop-inspired motif, the toys stand 235mm tall and retail for ¥7,480 JPY (approximately $73 USD) each. Both Warhol figures – part of Medicom’s Vinyl Collectible Dolls range – are now available via project 1/6 while supplies last.
