Uniqlo teams up with Muslim fashion designer Hana Tajima for modest fashion line

Daily Mail (UK):

Japanese retail company Uniqlo has teamed up with Muslim fashion designer, Hana Tajima, to create a modest ‘lifewear’ collection for women.

The collection includes long, flowing skirts, tapered ankle-length pants and traditional wear like kebaya and hijabs, with the company saying the collection ‘fuses contemporary design and comfortable fabrics with traditional values.’

Designed by popular British fashion blogger Tajima, the range carefully blends modern prints and colours with modest cuts to cater to all women who embrace a modest style.

Inspired: Fashion designer Hana Tajima converted to Islam at 17 and has always been passionate about finding ways to keep traditional and conservative clothing and accessories flattering on the body

The popular fashion blogger, who converted to Islam at 17, announced the collaboration on her personal blog, saying it felt wonderful to let her mind run and ‘unearth’ her ideas.

Now you get to see it in its whole form and it’s all for you,’ Tajima wrote.

Hiroshi Fujiwara to open the POOL shinjuku

Just over a year after unveiling his POOL concept retail door in Aoyama, Hiroshi Fujiwara is preparing to extend the franchise with a new location in Shinjuku. Over the course of its existence, the POOL aoyama did well to set a precedent of innovation and excellence, creating truly rare installation experiences such as a White Mountaineering collaborative pop-up and vintage streetwear trunk show.

Perhaps in the temporary spirit of the store though, Fujiwara recently announced that the store will shutter its doors in April 2016. The announcement of the POOL shinjuku, then, represents the second phase of the idea, although for a much shorter period. Running from June 17 through June 22, the Shinjuku location will be located in the heart of Tokyo at the Shinjuku Store Main Building.

Be sure to check back here for a look inside the store as we near the launch date.

Issey Miyake 2015 Fall/Winter HOMME PLISSÉ Jackets (lookbook video)

Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake drops the jacket series for the 2015 fall/winter HOMME PLISSÉ collection with an accompanying lookbook video. The range is comprised of overcoats, blazers, suits, cardigans, vests, button-up shirts, pants and accessories like ties and scarves that’s swathed in a dominant black-and-white color scheme with subtle pops of baby blue, burgundy, lime green, burnt sienna, navy and bright orange. Bold detailing is added to traditional silhouettes like pinstripe suits and other formal evening-wear as the designer’s famous finely-scrunched pleats are seen on the origami-esque folds of the collars, pants and twisted neckties.

The eclectic HOMME PLISSÉ Jacket Series has been pre-released in Japan, but expect to see a North American release in the coming months.
