Olivia Munn as Psylocke in the upcoming “X-Men: Apocalypse”

Get ready for the first appearance of the Olivia Munn Psylocke.

Check out a new image of the Olivia Munn Psylocke and read on for the actress’ thoughts on getting the character right

ComingSoon.net (by Silas Lesnick):

This summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse is set to mark the first major appearance of the mutant known as Psylocke on the big screen. As you can see from a newly-released image, 20th Century Fox is committed to making the Olivia Munn Psylocke true to the character in the comic book and, in a new interview with CNET, the actress explains why she’s proud of her take on the psionic mutant.

“I’ve loved Psylocke for so long,” Munn tells the outlet. “She’s a really, really strong badass female character in this comic book world where a lot of times the women don’t get to be strong and badass. You see a lot of superheroes [who] don’t always want to kill, and they’ll avoid it if they can. She’s never had a problem killing, and I like that she was the bad guy that had no problem being the bad guy. She’s telekinetic and telepathic so she can read your mind. She can create anything with her mind. To win any, she can just create a mountain and have it fall down on you, but she chooses to create a sword so she can kill up close and personal. I always thought that was really cool and badass.”

Like quite a few Marvel mutants, Psylocke’s comic book history is a bit strange. Elizabeth Braddock first appeared in 1976’s “Captain Britain” #8 as the twin sister of the UK book’s title hero. It wasn’t until a decade later in the pages of “New Mutants Annual” #2 that Braddock, a telepath, took over the body and abilities of a Japanese ninja, Kwannon, becoming the X-Men member known as Psylocke.

Whether Olivia Munn’s Pyslocke will have such a convoluted origin story remains to be seen.

Said to be the conclusion of a trilogy started with X-Men: First Class and continued with X-Men: Days of Future Past, the Bryan Singer-directed X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release on May 27, 2016.

Disney to open first mainland China resort in Shanghai in June

NBC News:

China‘s very own Happiest Place on Earth will be enchanting visitors as soon as this summer.

The Shanghai Disney Resort is slated to throw open the doors of its Magic Kingdom on June 16, becoming the first Disney destination on mainland China and the third in Asia following Tokyo Disneyland‘s debut in 1983 and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort opening in 2005.

The estimated $5.5 billion resort is a joint venture between Disney and Shanghai Shendi Group, a state-owned enterprise that is holding 57 percent of the project.

The resort reflects Disney’s legendary storytelling along with China’s rich culture, and showcases some of the most creative and innovative experiences we’ve ever created,” Disney CEO Robert Iger said in a statement. “We’re looking forward to showing it to the world and sharing it with the people of China for generations to come.”

Disney is hoping to capitalize on China’s massive economic growth in recent years, although forecasts this year have sent the world’s second-largest economy into a tailspin.

The new resort broke ground in 2011 and will encompass more than 960 acres. It will include an Enchanted Storybook Castle, being billed as the largest, most technologically advanced of Disney’s fabled castles.

The park will also be home to different themes, and include Marvel and Star Wars characters owned as part of Disney’s other properties.

French-Cambodian actress Élodie Yung as Elektra, revealed in the new ‘Daredevil’ Season 2 trailer

Elektra Revealed in ‘Daredevil’ Season 2

Entertainment Weekly/MovieWeb:

Marvel’s Daredevil is set to introduce the violent sexy mercenary (The Girl with the Dragon tattoo actress Élodie Yung) in season 2. She’ll complicate Matt Murdoch’s life while he struggles to handle new threats in Hell’s Kitchen, including Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher (Jon Bernthal).

Above is a first photo of the actress in the show — albeit without her double-sai-dagger-wielding costume on.

Elektra and Punisher will be joined in Daredevil Season 2 by returning stars Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, a.k.a. Night Nurse, and Scott Glenn as Stick. We also reported in November that Sonia Braga has signed on to star in Marvel’s Luke Cage as Claire Temple’s mother, but it isn’t known if this character will also surface in Season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil.

Netflix hasn’t announced when the new season will debut quite yet, but hopefully we’ll find out more soon.

Entertainment Weekly also spoke to Daredevil showrunner Douglas Petrie, who reveals that Elektra will become Matt Murdock’s girlfriend. “Matt’s a deeply moral complicated guy and she’s just the best bad girlfriend you can possibly have. She does everything wrong and attractive, she’s his id, the wild side. Matt is always taming his wild side. Elektra just lets it out. He’s both repulsed and deeply drawn to that.

Marvel Comics reveals Amadeus Cho as “Totally Awesome Hulk”

Entertainment Weekly:

An Old Man Hawkeye, a new Doctor Strange series and Ms. Marvel joining The Avengers are just some of the reveals Marvel has unleashed since unveiling its All-New All-Different initiative a few months ago. But with over 60 new titles, there’s still mystery surrounding some of Marvel’s most popular characters — such as the much-anticipated new Hulk that’s going to take over Bruce Banner’s mantle when Totally Awesome Hulk #1 hits stores in December.

So who is the new man in green? He’s different, he’s totally awesome…and he’s none other than kid genius Amadeus Cho.

A fixture of both the Marvel Universe and the Hulk stories for ten years, Cho seems like a natural choice, given that he mirrors his predecessor in a variety of ways — from his smarts to his impulsive nature. But the character serves a more significant purpose: crowning Cho with the Hulk title will mark the first time in Marvel history that the company will have a Korean-American lead character written and drawn by a Korean-American creative team (Greg Pak and Frank Cho, respectively.)

Thousands show up to Ani-Com & Games Fair in Hong Kong

Channel NewsAsia:

Thousands of comic book fans, gamers and cosplayers are thronging the 17th Ani-Com & Games Fair in Hong Kong. Organisers are hoping to beat last year’s attendance of more than 720,000 people.

About 100 die-hard comic book fans and gamers camped out overnight ahead of the fair. Previous years saw larger crowds wanting to score limited edition merchandise, which organizers have since banned.

At the head of the queue was a fan eagerly awaiting a deluxe edition of his favourite videogame. “I’m here for the Playstation’s latest Metal Gear Solid video game. This year, I’ve set aside about US$1,000 to spend,” said Mr Chan.

There are also many comic characters coming to life. Cosplayer Paul Ho said: “We’re the crazy, crazy people. We take annual leave and come to the Comicon Hong Kong to support society, support the positives. I always say, you have heart, you can be the superhero.”

Mr Ho, an event organiser, paraded around the fair with friends in home-made costumes, inspired by the Avengers movie.

The dark side of the force was also strong when its most famous Sith Lord made an appearance. One would also likely need a second garage to fit a 1/6 scale of the Millennium Falcon spacecraft, which needs no introduction to Star Wars fans.

A Millennium Falcon movdel from the Star Wars is displayed at the 17th Ani-Com and Games exhibition in Hong Kong.

Hot Toys, a Hong Kong-based company that produces high-end figurines coveted worldwide, build the highly detailed model, which is 18-feet by 12-feet in size.

“We built it because we’re die-hard fans of Star Wars, we want people to love Star Wars, and that’s why we built it, but it’s not for sale,” said Chere Li, marketing manager at Hot Toys.

What is for sale and is its bestseller is the Iron Man Hulkbuster action figure that was featured on the big screen recently.

Channel NewsAsia‘s Hong Kong Bureau Chief Roland Lim also had the chance to test a product that is not out in the market yet. Sony‘s virtual reality headset, codenamed Project Morpheus, will not be ready until next year and Sony is planning for 30 games to come with it.

Hong Kong is the first in Asia for gamers to play Star Wars Battlefront, while Microsoft has set up a special wall with 200 car models to celebrate the 10th anniversary of racing game Forza.

The convention runs until Tuesday.
