Pre-order the sleek new Batman figure envisioned by prolific video game designer Tetsuya Nomura

RocketNews 24:

Tetsuya Nomura is the mastermind behind this upcoming Batman figure, the likes of which you’ve never seen before. The 44-year-old video game artist/designer/director of Square Enix fame (he’s a veteran of both the Final Fantasy series and Kingdom Hearts) personally designed this version of the Dark Knight, and if you’re a fan of both his work and DC Comics, you’d better ready your wallet now!

Even by Batman standards, this new figure is a relatively dark interpretation of everybody’s favorite brooding superhero. One look at its design and Nomura’s stylistic flourishes are evident in every little detail, from the incredibly intricate bladed arm gauntlets to the flowing, jagged cape. A pair of mobile arms sprouting from the figure’s back, which can be “deactivated” at your pleasure, add a nice personal touch.

This definitely seems like the Final Fantasy X Batman crossover that we’ve all been waiting for.

The glossy black coloration accented by a rich red does wonders to further stylize the Dark Knight. Just watch out for those claws!

At approximately 306 millimeters (12 inches) tall and weighing 670 grams (1.5 pounds), the figure has quite the threatening presence.

Nomura’s figure is currently available for pre-order on Amazon Japan’s site for 19,786 yen (US$166.01), which is also listed as being 26% (6,998 yen/$58.72) off the list price. The actual release date is slated for July 31.

‘Mobius Final Fantasy’ Trailer

Square Enix has just released a two-minute trailer for its upcoming smartphone RPG, Mobius Final Fantasy, and it certainly looks impressive for a game fully developed for the mobile gaming market. While the trailer is fairly short, it reveals quite a lot in terms of the characters and the gameplay that we can expect, showing off the Ranger, White Mage and Thief jobclasses in some dramatic battles, and also announcing that the Dark Knight, Warrior and Hunter classes will be available.

The protagonist Wal also has the ability to summon all of your favorite classic summon monsters, in true Final Fantasy fashion. It’s safe to say that this definitely takes mobile gaming to another level, and we’ll be eagerly awaiting the release of Mobius Final Fantasy on iOS and Android in Japan in 2015. Square Enix has stated it will see a wider release but hasn’t given a window yet.

Geek Exchange/ Brittany Vincent:

Final Fantasy Explorersa new mobile game from Square Enix for the 3DS, combines the familiar jobs you love with a multiplayer action-RPG system.

It’s been a fantastic week for Final Fantasy fans, and Square Enix continues to sweeten the deal with every new announcement. With the latest issue of Japanese video game magazine Jump, the developer revealed Final Fantasy Explorers for the Nintendo 3DS, a multiplayer role-playing game where you seek out Crystals while eliminating a series of classic Summons who want to take you out.

Each player will be able to choose their own specific job, while playing a different role. They’re based off the already-existing specifications from previous Final Fantasy games, such as Black Mage, White Mage, Knight, and Monk. Player parties will consist of four players, and each person involved will have to use their own special abilities to make sure the Summons never again see the light of day.

Final Fantasy Explorers doesn’t have a concrete release date yet, but the rest of the year should have plenty to whet Final Fantasy fans’ whistles: With the announcement of Final Fantasy Type-0 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, as well as the free-to-play Final Fantasy Agito releasing for iOS and Android later this year, there’s never been a better time to be aFinal Fantasy fan. And let’s not forget about Final Fantasy XV, which will making, arguably, the biggest splash out of the entire rest of the stable.

“Final Fantasy” chocolates: The gift your gaming Valentine actually wants

RocketNews 24:

Last weekend I was at a department store in Tokyo, and since Valentine’s Day is coming up, the confectionary section was packed with candy makers hawking limited-edition chocolates for the romantic holiday. As I looked at all the sweetness on display, though, something struck me.

In Japan, women give chocolate to the special guy in their life, but the aesthetics are still entirely feminine. I saw dozens of candies shaped like hearts, ribbons, and even teddy bears and other cute woodland animals.

While the craftsmanship was impressive, none of the designs were the sort of things men actually want for themselves, especially when they could have these awesome Final Fantasy chocolates instead.

Developer Square Enix is offering three different sets of Final Fantasy chocolates, all based on the popular seventh installment in the series. The top of the heap is the five pieceFinal Fantasy VII Materia chocolate, modeled after the magical power-granting material orbs used by the player’s party in its quest to save the world. At 3,000 yen (US$28.85) the set doesn’t come cheap, but that price does get you five different flavors of chocolate, plus the undying gratitude of your game-loving Valentine.

If the sticker shock on the material set is a bit much for you, there are alternative Final Fantasy chocolates that don’t require you to spend 10 hours killing dragons (or working overtime) to acquire the wealth necessary to purchase them. The five-piece Advent Children set includes designs such as protagonist Cloud’s wolf motif and the logo of the sinister Shinra Corporation for 2,000 yen. While it doesn’t have quite the impact of the materia set, the more traditional design does make it more likely the recipient will actually eat them. With the material set, there’s the definite risk that your boyfriend will just display it proudly on the shelf next to his Tifa figurine until both are overrun with ants.

Easier still on the wallet is the three-piece Advent Children, which goes for 1,400 yen.

All three sets are available at Square Enix’s official merchandise shop, Artnia, in downtown Tokyo.
